Reminder: Annual JASNA Student Essay Contest

The annual JASNA student essay contest is here with entries due by May 20, 2018.

As this is the 200th anniversary of Persuasion, the theme this year is:

The trio of faith, hope and charity all feature in Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion. Discuss how possessing or lacking these qualities affects a character’s behavior and drives the plot. You may focus on one quality or examine the interplay of two or all three. You may include more than one character in your discussion.

The contest is open to high school, college, and graduate students. Prizes are for first place, $1000 scholarship and free registration and two nights’ lodging for JASNA’s upcoming Annual General Meeting; for second place, $500 scholarship, and finally for third place, $250 scholarship.

All winners will also receive a one-year membership with JASNA, a set of Norton Critical Editions of Austen’s novels, and the winning essays are published on the main JASNA website.
